I saw my father waving
Waving me goodbye
I wasn’t sure he meant it
I stood there but didn’t cry
He’s gone like smoke
And daydreams
He’s gone like melting snow
I turned around to see him
I can’t think were he would go
I stepped behind a white pine
The fragrance of a king
I watched the dappled sunshine
I heard a sparrow sing
I thought I saw a shadow
Between the cattails sway
His plaid shirt was deceiving
I simply walked away
I listen in the quiet night
In case I hear his voice
Moons and stars and satellites
Never care to make a choice
I’ll listen to the cackling wind
Her throat a treacherous call
But never do I hear him
Nor anything at all
